Deep Purple are a British rock band formed in 1968 with the core members Jon Lord (keyboards), Ian Paice (drums), and Ritchie Blackmore (guitar). Their musical style has varied throughout their career beginning as a psychedelic progressive rock band. Their musical style has varied throughout their career.
After singer Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper were dismissed and replaced by Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, respectively, the band played a key role in shaping the emerging genres of hard rock and heavy metal.
When singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover left in 1973 they were replaced by David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.
Blackmore left in 1975 to form Rainbow, and he was replaced by Tommy Bolin. Unfortunately, Bolin's drug problems affected his playing on stage and the band soon broke up after the Come Taste The Band tour in 1976.
