HIGHLY LIKELY: "Whatever Happened To You"

This is the theme tune for the BBC TV comedy Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads?, written by Mike Hugg of Manfred Mann and scriptwriter Ian La Frenais, and performed by Hugg's session band fronted by singer Tony Rivers.

The song peaked on entry to the UK chart at #35.

THE MEMBERS: "Offshore Banking Business"

Closely following their #12 hit, "The Sounds Of The Suburbs", British punk rock band The Members' second and final hit peaked at #31.

THE BEACH BOYS: "Here Comes The Night"

After a very successful 1960s, The Beach Boys alternated with singles in and out of the Top 30 in the 1970s.

This song peaked at #37.

CROWN HEIGHTS AFFAIR: "Dance Lady Dance"

Most UK singles by American R&B / funk / disco group Crown Heights Affair failed to hit the Top 30.

This third hit peaked at #44.

LIGHT OF THE WORLD: "Swingin'"

British jazz-funk band Light Of The World's first single spent five weeks in the UK chart, peaking at #45.

SYLVESTER: "I (Who Have Nothing)"

After two Top 30 hits American singer-songwriter Sylvester released a cover version of a song that Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones had had Top 20 hits with.

In this case, the song peaked at #46.

SARAH BRIGHTMAN & THE STARSHIP TROOPERS: "The Adventures Of The Love Crusader"

Following the Top 10 success of English classical crossover soprano singer Sarah Brightman with "I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper" (with dance troupe Hot Gossip), she released this song which could only make it to #53 for two weeks.

ANNE MURRAY: "I Just Fall In Love Again"

Canadian country singer Anne Murray had two Top 30 UK hits either end of the 1970s. This time, she found herself stalling at #58 with a 1977 Carpenters song.

PAUL HARDCASTLE: "You're The One For Me/Daybreak/AM"

English record producer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Hardcastle spent 1984 with four singles peaking outside the Top 40. The first of these was this medley which peaked at #41.

THOMAS DOLBY: "I Scare Myself"

English record producer and musician Thomas Dolby followed his biggest hit, "Hyperactive!" with this song which was only able to make it to #46.

TALK TALK: "Such A Shame"

Talk Talk's single releases have seen mixed success and this early attempt could only take them to #49 (for a fortnight).

JULIAN COPE: "The Greatness And Perfection Of Love (Remix)"

English musician Julian Cope's second UK hit made it to #52.

MALCOLM X: "No Sellout"

This hip hop piece composed by American drummer Keith LeBlanc and credited to Malcolm X features samples of voice of the Black nationalist leader.

The single peaked at #60.

REAL TO REEL: "Love Me Like This"

American funk/modern soul group Real to Reel had just one UK hit which charted at its peak of #68.

KENNY G: "Hi How Ya Doin'"

American smooth jazz saxophonist Kenny G debuted in the UK charts with this tune that peaked at #70.

BRUCE FOXTON: "It Makes Me Wonder"

After The Jam disbanded bassist Bruce Foxton tried a solo career and scored four hits of which only one went Top 30.

This third hit peaked on entry to the chart at #74.

BOBBY KING: "Lovequake"

American gospel-style, R&B and soul singer Bobby King had just the one UK hit with this one which peaked at #79.

GRANDMASTER & MELLE MEL: "Jesse"

Melle Mel, the American rapper who was the lead vocalist and songwriter of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five released this song which peaked at #83.

LOTUS EATERS: "Set Me Apart"

English new wave band The Lotus Eaters could never replicate the success of "The First Picture Of You", with no other singles making the Top 40.

This was their lowest placing song, peaking on entry to the chart at #88.
