Rod Argent is an English musician. In a career spanning more than 60 years, Argent came to prominence in the mid-1960s as the keyboardist, founder and leader of the rock band the Zombies, and went on to form the band Argent after the first break-up of the Zombies. Argent is one of the main composers of the Zombies' music and made major lyrical contributions to the band's songs.
Argent began a solo career in 1978, working with many well-known musicians, including Gary Moore and Genesis drummer Phil Collins. He went on to play keyboards with a number of musicians, including piano on the title track of The Who's album Who Are You, and on Variations with Gary Moore, Julian Lloyd Webber, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
In the 1980s he began writing for television. In 1986, he composed the theme music for ITV's coverage of the 1986 FIFA World Cup, "Aztec Gold", which he released as a single under the name of Silsoe. Also in 1986, he composed the theme music for ITV's The Two of Us and for 1987's LWT series Bust. Two years later, the Argent/Van Hooke composition "Goal Crazy" was used by ITV's The Match from 1988 until 1992; and the duo also composed the now-familiar theme music for ITV's It'll Be Alright On The Night, first used in 1990.

Argent were a British rock band formed in 1969 by former Zombies keyboardist Rod Argent (born June 14, 1945). His new band employed much heavier rhythms and a generally weightier sound, but also continued the minor keys and complex lyrics of the Zombies, often by Argent's writing with former Zombies bassist Chris White. Guitarist and vocalist Russ Ballard also developed strong melodies and hit singles, writing a string of FM staples. The band was completed by bassist Jim Rodford and drummer Bob Henrit. Lead vocal duties were shared between Ballard and Argent.
It would not be until 1972 when the third album, All Together Now, until they tasted success with their best-remembered Top 5 hit, "Hold Your Head Up".
The next album, In Deep (1973), would feature "God Gave Rock And Roll To You", which was a Top 20 hit but became best known through its use in the 1991 movie Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey but covered by Kiss.
Ballard left in 1974 to pursue a successful career as a solo artist. The band regrouped as a quintet with the addition of young virtuoso guitarist John Grimaldi and guitarist/vocalist John Verity. Both of their final albums were poorly received and failed to sell and Grimaldi left the band. While Argent considered whether to continue with the band, Henrit, Rodford and Verity formed Phoenix.
The original Argent line-up would reunite in 2010 and perform until 2013.
